come and gone. The grass has just gone wild with growth in the last month. We have had so much rain during the month of June and the first part of July. Texas was not meant to have this much moisture during hot weather. Soon we will look like a rain forest. So, today was mow the grass, trim the grass and haul off the grass. This time last year it was so dry even the weeds were wilting. ha

We had a couple of visitors today. A gentleman came from Virginia to look at colts and stallions. At the moment we have the stallion Hollywood White aka Mister Ed staying with us while we catch our straggler mares that were bred and now are not bred. The lab, by now, has normally been shut down and other projects started, but no, we are still breeding mares. The two we have left are headed to cooler countries, Austria and the Netherlands, so if they are late babies, then that wont matter. He enjoyed visiting with all the overly friendly colts and fillies. Kind of intimidates some people when they just come right up to you and demand your attention. ha These Ed babies have been a friendly bunch.

I am posting some photos of the Hollywood White babies in this posting. Enjoy.

Well here it is almost 3 weeks since my last insert. Where does the time get to? Since then, we have had people visit us from Austria for several days and they ended up buying one of our brood mares in foal to Little Bo Badger and also purchased a son of Little Bo Badger out of a daughter of Docs Remedy. In the fall they will be shipped overseas to Austria. We really enjoyed their visit and took them to see Cowtown in Down town Ft. Worth on the old side of town and then a day or two later we made some of the larger breeding farms in Parker County such as Joe Landers Incorporated, where Dual Pep and CD Olena stand and also DLR stallion farm where High Brow Cat and many 0ther great stallions are kept and bred each year. We also went to the reining horse farm and CEM quarantine center Nedpoint Quarter Horses, Inc. in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma and stopped by Carol Roses to let them see what a $5million dollar horse looks like and also Shining Spark and a host of other great guys. Peptoboonsmal hadnt forgotten that he likes his tongue stroked either. hahahah He would do that when he was at Dr. Bakers clinic when they first stood him to the public. Just hope the people that bought him know how special a personality he has. Our last stop was at the Polo Ranch and they got to visit with Rooster and Boonlight Dancer. We drove a lot of miles while they were here, and although they were here but for a few days, we packed as much as we could into them. The weather hadnt gotten hot yet, but they were really ready to get back to the cool weather in Austria. ha We so enjoyed getting to meet them and feel we made friends that will return again one day.

The rain has finally come to an end for the summer. You know Texas, it is either droughth or flood. We just dont have anything in between in this part of the country. They said the other day that we get on average 34 inches of rain here in a normal year and by the end of June we had 35 inches racked up. Well at least all the lakes are full once more and there wont be a water shortage as in years past. Sure makes you spend more hours on the lawn mower though. Hay should be in good supply this winter as well. The last couple of years have been so lean on hay and when you have about 100 head to feed like we do, you become very creative when it comes to finding good hay at a good price. We generally always have enough cut from out own fields, but the droughth conditions the last few years have made it hard to make it stretch.

We had about 18 babies born this year. Eleven of them were Hollywood White babies. This is our first crop of them and we liked them so much that we bred these mares and some more back to him. He is really a great sire. Being a perlino stallion, a double dilute dun, he throws either buckskins, duns or palominos most of the time. He has the potential to produce a grullo or what they call a smoky or smutty black as well. Was really fun this year not knowing exactly what colors we would end up with. Will post some pictures on this if I can remember how. I am a new blogger. ha My daughter is my web consultant and keeps our web site up and she tried to show me how to blog and threatened me to post notes to it regulary. Kind of hard to teach an old dog new tricks, but gotta give me E for effort. ha

Well if you see new photos listed, then you will know I have it figured out. Until next time.

Welcome to 2X4 Quarter Horses

This is our blog for Cottar 2X4 Quarter Horses, Inc. just northwest of Ft. Worth, Texas in the heart of the cutting and reining horse industry. We are Gary and Marilyn Cottar, formerly owners and developers of Cottar Rope Co., Inc. In 1999 we sold our lariat rope company of 36 years and started our voyage into the quarter horse industry. We specifically breed for the cutting, reining and working cow horse industry and just recently have opened up to the ranch versatility competitions. Any of the off spring from the stallions listed below are all eligible for the NRBC and the stallions are offered up in NRHA Sire and Dam program.

We are located in Parker County where most of the largest quarter horse breeding farms are located. As of last count, there were more brood mares in this county during breeding season, than the whole state of California combined. We stand several stallions each season: Little Bo Badger(own son of Peppy San Badger)[Bo's offspring going to Europe are eligible for the German futurity as well as the NRBC and the NRHA sire and dam program] and Pepto Boon Shaddow(own son of Pepto Boonsmal). Each year we offer weanlings, yearling and two year olds, by these stallions and
3 times NRHA Champion Hollywood White.

People that visit us always comment on the high level of care our animals receive and in turn how that personal attention produces such wonderful temperaments and willingness to learn. Our horses not only have natural athletic ability but easy to train attitude and want to please. Watching them in the pasture you can see why so many trainers love to work with them. Trainers often comment that they are so natural at what they do that it makes their job effortless.

We have been lucky to reach the European market with most of our better colts.
